GABRIEL’S BAPTISM

GABRIEL’S BAPTISM

We headed up to Plano for Gabriel Michael Shearer’s baptism this weekend. He is a precious gift from God—not only born on the Feast of the Guardian Angels’ but baptized the day of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s beatification. He is such a beautiful child…only two weeks only and extremely well behaved and charismatic.

Whoever says that in their infancy children are not affected by baptism has surely never witnessed one. I will forever have imprinted in my memory the look on Gabriel’s face after his birth into the church as the waters of grace flowed over his head. And as the priest was drying his head, Gabriel had the most beautiful smile and look of peace. He was truely overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.

We thank God and Andrew and Elizabeth for the honor of being Gabriel’s Godparents. We are forever grateful for the time we were able to hold him and have on-the-job training for little baby G. My favorite part was just holding him and seeing Adam hold him. Adam even got to try changing his diaper and I got to try to swaddle him. It’s amazing how much it’s NOT like practicing with the doll at the baby care class. Just when you think you’re ready to swaddle a real baby, you realize that they actually have moving parts–like arms–that throw a whole other dimension into the experience! :)

ROSANNA’S BRIDAL SHOWER

Our busy weekend started with a bridal shower for our friend Rosanna. A couple of her friends and I hosted the shower at our house. We had a cozy little crowd with lots of games and foods. We wish many blessings on her and Mike especially this month before their wedding.

PHOTO ALBUM ADDITION

Finally! The long awaited photo album from our honeymoon is now available (on the right). Enjoy!

SITE LAUNCH: ERIC VON LEHMDEN

SITE LAUNCH: ERIC VON LEHMDEN PHOTOGRAPHY

I have recently completed a site for Eric Von Lehmden, the photographer for our wedding. His work is awesome. The challenge for me was to design a site that would “stand back” and let his work speak for itself. We’re both happy with the results.

BABY STUFF

Registry is completed… for the most part. We’re registered at Babies R Us. We’re always open to suggestions, since we can alter our choices on the registery.

We purchased a crib we liked from the Pumpkin Patch. There was some damage to the brackets, but the manufacturer sent us new parts (which were part of a recall). Overall it’s in great condition and a beautiful addition to our home.

Bradley classes are complete. Truly a wonderful experience and has well prepared us for the big day. We’ll definitely have to review a lot of stuff in the meantime.

Baby G is healthy and doing well. I can now feel and see the kicks on Sharon’s tummy. We have our next doctor’s visit this Friday.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Last night we spoke on God’s Plan for Successful Dating and Peaceful Waiting. It was a great talk and the audience was quite receptive. It’s always a joy to share the blessings God gives us everyday with others.

CUBS

Wait til next year.

Way to go guys.

“IF YOU’VE ALREADY DONE A WEDDING REGISTRY, A BABY REGISTRY SHOULD BE CAKE, RIGHT?… RIGHT!?!…”

This weekend we started the ever fearful baby registry. We had been warned many times over from those who went before us, but nothing could have really prepared us for this overwhelming experience. Just stepping into Babies R Us you can feel your lifetime slipping away back out the automatic doors. You can see our registry now, but remember we’re far from completion. Plus we may make a few changes so you might wanna wait for a later post.

IS THIS A DAGGER WHICH I SEE BEFORE ME??? … OR A PIZZA? MMMM… PIZZZZAAAAA…

IS THIS A DAGGER WHICH I SEE BEFORE ME? OR A PIZZA? MMMM… PIIZZZAAA…

Sharon and I had obtained season tickets to the Paramount Theatre, with a choice of four shows. Needless to say, the first show was primarily Adam’s choice. MacHomer is a must see for any Simpson’s fan. It’s a one man performance of Simpsons do MacBeth, in which Rick Miller impersonates over 50 characters from the show. Quite amazing.

This Saturday we hosted a baby shower for Dominic and Manisha Selvaraj. They are doing fine and their baby girl is expected around December 8.

Sunday we also started our baptism classes at St. Louis followed with a breastfeeding class on Monday and a childcare class on Wednesday at St. David’s Hospital. Man, we feel like we’re in school all over again…

WITCHCRAFT NOW AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL TARGET

WITCHCRAFT NOW AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL TARGET STORE
50% off with a child’s soul

I have read and heard many views on the pros and cons of allowing children to read the infamous Harry Potter series. Perusing through the book section at a local Target store recently, I wasn’t surprised to see the latest novel located at an end-aisle diplay. What was shocking, was this book sitting right beside it.

My friends, this settles the debate. All the falsified reasons of defense for “promoting literacy” and “developing imagination” is pure bull. Nothing is worth the cost of your child’s soul.

BABY G, SECOND SIGHTING

BABY G, SECOND SIGHTING

Baby G at 19 weeks
We had our ultrasound a couple of days ago (Friday, Aug 22)! It was wonderful. Baby G waved a big hello to the world! :) It was nice and short but every second was lovely. The sonographer and doctor checked to make sure baby has all its fingers, toes, and major organs in place. They estimated the baby probably weighs a good 8 oz. We’re right on target for 19 full weeks. We saw (and heard) the heartbeat and its four chambers. We got a great shot at the feet and both arms. Baby yawned for us a couple of times and showed no sign of a cleft palette. And as you can see from the picture the vertebra in the spine look perfect! We didn’t want to know baby’s gender. We’re doing everything the old fashion way! So the great thing was that neither the sonographer nor the doctor really got a good look to be able to tell what the baby’s gender is.

We just went to our fourth childbirth class. It’s been quite a struggle in so many respects. What people say about ignorance being bliss is definitely true when it comes to childbirth. And even more so when it comes to the birthing procedures at hospitals. Sharon is pretty much scared to death to have the baby at the hospital. So she’ll be calling around to different birthing centers to see if any will take our insurance. With working and all the extras on our plates, it has also been challenging to keep up with Sharon’s exercises. But that’s what’s great about starting early, we have time to change the game plan and our training strategies. It’s not been easy so we would ask for your prayers in this regard.

A week from today we’ll be with the Gretencords in Indiana for a much needed vacation. We’re looking forward to some R&R, and a great Cubs game in Chicago!

A couple of finals birthday announcements: “I spy with my little eye”….a Happy Birthday to our friend Brian on the 27th. We got him good with a surprise party yesterday…all beautifully orchestrated by his girlfriend Maria. Also at the tail end of this month is Sharon’s grandmother’s birthday on the 30th and her sister-in-law, Rosie, on the 31st.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUND

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUND

Half way through the month and time for a little update.

We heard Baby G’s heartbeat [mp3] for the first time! Never was there such a beautiful sound in the whole world.

We’re also gearing up to start our childbirth classes. Thanks to our Natural Family Planning practioner and a few good friends, we’re going to do the Bradley Method of Childbirth a.k.a Husband-coached childbirth. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard about it before, we hadn’t and most of our friends hadn’t either. The goal of the Bradley Method is to have an unmedicated natural childbirth by preparing the mother’s body, and the couple emotionally for the birthing process. It’s been so enlightening to read about. Bradley boasts an 86% success rate–leaving Lamaze far behind. We’re so excited. I’ve heard from so many women personally (and of course through sitcoms and movies) about what a painfully bad birthing experience they had when they tried natural childbirth–and all those epiderals! No wonder some women opt for a c-section when they could have a natural birth—and worse no wonder women and couple don’t want additional children.

Childbirth. What a wonderful topic!!! We heard a talk on suffering that paralleled the Garden of Eden and the Garden of Gethsemene and what Christ came down for. A few spectacular points where that Jesus didn’t just come down from Heaven to die for us. If that were the case he could have died as an infant when Herod was on his killing rampage. No, Jesus came to SUFFER for us! Jesus came to earth to save us from difinitive suffering and uses our temporal suffering to allow us to participate in His suffering. Isn’t that awesome! So where does childbirth come in? Well, back to the Garden of Eden remember after Eve and Adam eat the fruit from the tree of Good and Evil, God issues His “punishments.” Eve made a huge blunder in letting the fear of the serpent overcome the love of God. But God does something very beautiful. He tells her that he will increase her pains in childbirth, but her desire will be for her husband. What He does in essense is He gives Eve an occasion of suffering through the gift of divine love (which is children) because He knows that through suffering our love becomes even greater! St. Paul then say in his letter to the Colossians that in our own suffering we complete Christ’s suffering. (Colossians 1:24 )

And when we join our suffering to Christ’s it becomes redemptive and we can save souls! Imagine how the world could change if every suffering we had we gave to Jesus to convert a heart or save a soul– every physical pain, every emotional pain, and the offerrings of small sacrifices everyday like not having that can of pop or cup of coffee or that piece of dessert at the end of dinner. The greatest example is our beloved St. Therese of Liseaux… Perhaps her story will come in the next update. For now, may all God’s blessings be upon you.

“ROME”SICK

This past week, we went to the exhibit Saint Peter and the Vatican at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Ah, all the great memories and stories we treasured in our hearts from our honeymoon in Rome came flooding back to us that afternoon. Our faith is simply beautiful. The exhibit is closing this weekend in Houston and will then be moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL till November. Then it moves to Cincinnati from December 2003 to April 2004 (all you Hoosier folk, do NOT miss this). It’s final stop is then in San Diego until September 2004 (and we do have friends in San Diego, right Eddie?). The schedule is here.

THE PUNCTUATION OF OUR FAITH

THE PUNCTUATION OF OUR FAITH

We had an extraordinary weekend at the Fullness of Truth Conference in Plano, Texas last weekend. Thank you to the Shearer family for putting us up in their lovely home.

It was a wonderful way to revive our faith. We all often get caught up in our daily lives and lose sight of why we were even gifted with our life—to know, love and serve God in this world so we can be happy with him in the next! This entry might be a little long, but keep reading. Boy do we have some wonderful gifts to share with you!

What is the punctuation of your faith? Marcus Grodi gave a great talk on keeping our kids Catholic. One thing that really struck me was that question: What is the punctuation of your faith? When you say “Jesus is Lord,” with what punctuation do you end it? Do you end it with a question mark (?) uncertain that He is your Lord? Or a comma (,) and add Jesus to a list of all the other things in your life? Do you end with a period (.), knowing that he is but unable to share that with anyone else? Or do you end it with a colon (:), prepared to defend your faith and Jesus Christ, as the apostles did in the book of Acts? Or finally are you so excited that He’s the center of your life that you want to bring others to Him and end that statement with and exclamation mark: “Jesus is Lord!” Pope John Paul II has called EVERYONE to conversion. And one step to keeping our families Catholic is working on make Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior the exclamation mark of our lives!

We’re also very excited about is the release of Thérèse; the movie on the life of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Leonardo Defilippis, the producer, director and actor of the movie, performed the one-man play, The Confessions of St. Augustine. He also showed the preview of Thérèse and gave a talk on the making of the movie. This is the first not-for-profit film to ever be made. It would also be the first truly Catholic movie about one of the greatest saints of our time released to the big screen. The potential that this movie has to evangelize is very exciting especially in light of all the church scandals in the past year. We implore you to visit the site and spread the word of the Little Flower of the Child Jesus. They need 1 MILLION hits to the website by July 20. They also need $1 million dollars to finish production. And more than anything else, this film needs prayers. Pray that the St. Therese’s dream that she could spread the good news on five continents can be realized. And pray for the conversion of the hearts of those in Hollywood that would try to stop this from happening.

St. Thérèse, Pray for us!
