On the Move!

I wanted to give everyone a little update on our Little Flower. Therese started crawling last Tuesday evening, September 7! It takes some great motivation for her to do so. And there is only one toy that she would go after–a music toy that my parents got in Japan the year after I was born. Yesterday she actually moved out of her play area toward the dining room. She stop when she saw Adam and I, and demanded we pick her up and take her to the table with us.

She has been sufferring from allergies the past few days. She’s almost over it.
We went swimming yesterday with our friends Brad, Misty and little Anna. (Anna is a month older than Therese.) Therese and Anna have become quite good friends over the past month. It’s so adorable to watch them together.

Last night Therese had her first taste of meat–Turkey and rice baby food. She found it quite tastey…I found it quite bland.

Will the Little Flower please stand…

With all the summer rain, our Little Flower is growing quickly this summer. I doing some work here at the computer on Wednesday, while Therese was playing with her game cube (–a 1 foot wooden cube with games on the side and the wire with blocks on top). Well, I turned around and much to my amazement, she had managed to grab on to the wires on top and pull herself up to standing!

She’s ready to crawl any day now. She’s scooting and rolling and very aware that if she really wants to, she can get moving anywhere.

New Firsts

Well Therese turned 6 months old last Friday. How quickly she is growing! At her doctor’s visit, she weighed 15 lbs 8 oz, and measured 26.5 inches in length. Those percentiles were still at 50 and 75 respectively. She has a small head though–it’s in the 25th percentile.

She’s been eating rice cereal for a week and last Friday she had her first vegetable–SQUASH! Yesterday she had her second–carrots–and she ate the whole jar of baby food. With all this real food comes poopier diapers. :P Cloth diapering isn’t as fun as it used to be now that it’s a little smellier. But she’s still doing great.

We started trying to put her to bed in her room. The other night she slept almost until 5:30 a.m. It was awesome. Slowly but surely.

She’s also ready to crawl. She sits up and rocks back and forth. She looks like a frog ready to leap. I supposed we’ll need to child proof very soon.

She has also mastered the sound for “m.” Quite frequently she’ll say, “uhmmmaamma.” I’d like to think she’s saying ‘mama.’ Who knows…but we’re working on the “d,” sound next.

The Shield of Faith

Fr. Corapi gave a series of talks in Austin a few years back and he spoke on one of his favorite topics: Spiritual Warfare. His usual discourse draws heavily from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, chapter 6. Verse 16 says, “In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.” To paraphase his interpretation:

What is “faith”? The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that faith is “Both a gift of God and a human act by which the believer gives personal adherence to God who invites his response, and freely assents to the whole truth that God has revealed” (my emphasis). So if we as Catholics do not accept the whole truth as taught by the Church, given to us by God who is Truth himself, then according to St. Paul… we have holes in our shield. And where do you suppose the evil one will aim his “flaming arrows”?

What’s the condition of your shield these days?

Mini Milestones

Therese is reaching more milestones these days. Since last week she has been sitting up on her own. She still topples over sometimes, but not as often. And she’s perfectly content playing on her own. This helps mommy out quite a bit.

We went to Houston last weekend where she slept the whole way there. She would have slep the whole way back if daddy hadn’t missed the turn to Austin and almost ended up in San Antonio. We also picked up a wooden high chair we bought off of ebay. She loves it and actually lets us eat dinner again.

We expect to start feeding her solids this month…but I’m in no rush while she’s still perfectly content with mama’s milk. We’ll probably have new adventures in feeding and cloth diapering to tell you about.

Walk for Life and Father’s Day

Thanks to all of you kind folks out there who sponsored Therese in the Texas Alliance Walk for Life! The walk was last Saturday. There was a great turnout. It was excellent to hang out with our friends: Mark, Brian, Norma, Tanya, The O’Sullivans as well as some Squires–Steven and Mike. Although Therese did not win the “Top Youth” award for pledges this year (but watch out next year), she did manage to raise $1,170. Not bad for a 5 month-old. :) Our friend, John O’Sullivan out-did himself again this year raising over $8,000 and our parish raised over $10,000. (Most of which was John’s contribution!) Look for pictures soon in the gallary.

Sunday Adam celebrated his second year as a father. (Babies in the womb count!) I made him a special brunch and dinner complete with a very yummy Triple-Berry Cheesecake. We watched a little NASCAR and went out to the batting cages to let Adam hit a few. Happy Father’s day to all the dads out there especially our own! :)

Another Year Older

Well, our Church and I turned a year older this weekend. It was very awesome sharing my birthday with Pentecost and the birth of our Church! No tongues of fire came down above our heads, but the Holy Spirit was definitely present in the blessing of all our friends who stopped by to celebrate with us.

We can never get too old for a game of croquet or Mexican train when you top it with birthday cake, ice cream, and a housefull of good friends! :)

It was the 4th anniversary of my 25th birthday and life is as it should be. As I was lamenting it almost being the 5TH anniversary of my 25th birthday, a friend reminded me if it were any different perhaps it wouldn’t be as it IS…and it sure IS wonderful! The best husband and the loveliest daughter!

We have some more birthdays this week to celebrate:
June 3: Dad Gretencord and Kimberlee D.
June 4: Dad Lozano and Rebecca L.

May you all have very blessed days!

Ms. Ten Toes, Two Chins, Chubby Cheeks at 4 months

Therese turned 4 months old yesterday. It’s hard for me to believe she’s already that old…seems like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital and people were remarking on her characteristic cheeks…oh wait…people still are! We went to the Voices for Life Prayer Vigil at St. Louis a couple of weeks ago and Fr. David asks, “What is she storing in those cheeks?”

Well, Ms. Ten Toes, Two Chins, Chubby Cheeks had her 4 month well check today. She got 4 more vaccines. She also weighed in at 13 lbs 12 oz. This was far below her daddy’s guess of 17 lbs! :) This weight places her in the 50th percentile. She measured 25 inches in length (75th percentile). Looking good for her upcoming appearance in the Walk for Life.
