Birthday Talent Show

Every year for Adam and my birthdays we always come up with a theme.  People come to expect this from us now.  Yesterday we celebrated my birthday and the theme was a Talent Show–and the prize was a pint of homemade chocolate gelato.  We had a blast!  And yes, we had a friend record it.

Here were the gifts our friends shared with us:

Adam and I: Using a puppet theater and veggies, we acted out the Hairbrush Song –a Silly Song by Larry. (Think Veggie Tales)

The Devman:  Juggling–and he’s really good too.  He was a crowd favorite…but he left early so he missed out on the gelato. We’ll do a raincheck.

The Lemmons:  Alan and Emily had a frog call competition.  (They’re biologist who study frogs.)  Alan also made us some homemade salsa–it was very good.  And Emily showed us some of the frogs they are raising for her research for Ph.D. disertation.  As another crowd favorite they got to take home the gelato.

Julie and Zvezdana:  Christmas in May.  These two talented voices sang three Christmas song–in harmony!

The Hebdas:  A dramatic interpretation of The Very Hungry Catapiller by Eric Carle.  They included their 3 three children; it was very original and creative.  As another crowd favorite we promised them the gelato next time they have us over for dinner.

The Whites:  Nikolas read me a norweigen birthday poem and Katherine (9 months old) played a Little Tykes piano with her feet…with some help from mom.

Mark:  His stand up show used all the guest names in puns!  This takes some sharp skill.  He came up as another favorite. So I’ll make him some gelato too.

The Dobson:  or shall I say Alexis and Ryan the Aggies!  Decked out in their Aggie attire, they educated the crowd on some Aggie yell traditions.  My “hook’em” slipped a couple of times but they were forgiving.  They had really good audience participation!

The Ceys:  Brad sang us the “Eyes of Texas.” That was a good follow-up to the Aggie traditions.  Misty sang me “Happy Birthday” in French!

Greg: shared his fine culinary skills with us in a casserole and yummy dip.

Thanks for sharing your creativity and talents with me!  It really made for a Happy birthday.
