Glucose Tolerence Test

After having fallen ill last week for a few days, Friday I found out that my glucose tolerance test results were too high.

My OB sent me to take an extended test which required three days of a special meal plan and a three hour blood test on the fourth day.  I went to the lab to take it this morning.  Thankfully Adam was able to work from home and watch the kids.

The testing required an initial blood draw followed by sugary drink and then a blood draw every hour after that for three hours.  Needless to say, my arms are a bit tender from the needles.

If my test results come back with my glucose levels too high then I likely have gestational diabetes (and my ethnicity and family health history have finally caught up with me).  Thankfully gestational diabetes is only an issue during pregnancy and after Baby G is born, my pancreas will behave normally again.  I’ll be sent to a specialist and will live out the rest of this pregnancy on a special meal plan to keep my glucose levels normal.

So, please keep me in your prayers.  I should know on Thursday how I did.  I am hoping the first test came out high because my immune system was being attacked by my illness.
