Home Improvements

We spent the greater part of the weekend ‘improving’ our home.

Little fingers were starting to pull off the wall paper in the half-bathroom downstairs. I knew it was inevitable. After all, how could a half-pint resist that tiny bit of wall paper unattached to wall. It was practically screaming, “PULL ME!!!” And of course what else do you have to do while you’re waiting to be done on the potty. So much to my beloved’s dismay, I made an executive order that the wall paper had to come down and I’m going to repaint the bathroom some cool color which is totally unlike the “eggshell colored” personality that we both are!

After talking to our friends Zvezdana and Misty, and reading about how to remove wall paper, I was expecting many long chemical-filled excruciating hours of wall paper removal. I’ve never been so happy that the previous owner of our home was a do-it-yourself kind of woman. Much to my delight and thanks be to God, the wall paper peeled off with a warm water sponge application and a warm mist humidifier going in the bathroom. I sent Adam back to Home Depot with the chemical remover and scraper!

I also spent this afternoon transplanting some rose bushes to either side of the row of grape vines. Since I wasn’t really attached to those rose bushes, we decided to go with the old wives tale that if you plant rose bushes at the end of your row of grape vines, the rose bushes will attract any plant disease before it hits the grape vines. We’ll see. I think it’s probably a little late to transplant rose bushes…and my mom would probably have a heart attack if she knew I did that (since she’s such a green thumb).

In addition to painting the bathroom we’re scoping out new colors for the kids’ rooms. The princesses will probably end up with something in the shades of pink and purple. The little guy will probably have something car related (since we’re such Nascar fans). I think Home Depot and Tony Stewart will be proud that they have officially brainwashed my girl. We were watching the race last night and she said, “Look, Dad, the Home Depot car!”
