A Saint’s Prayer for Her Country
St. Faustina loved Poland, her native land, and prayed for her frequently. She writes in her diary:
Once, after an adoration for our country, a pain pierced my soul, and I began to pray in this way: “Most merciful Jesus, I beseech You through the intercession of Your Saints, and especially the intercession of Your dearest Mother who nurtured you from childhood, bless my native land. I beg You, Jesus, look not on our sins, but on the tears of little children, on the hunger and cold they suffer. Jesus, for the sake of the innocent ones, grant me the grace that I am asking of You for my country.”
Sharon loved this prayer and suggested we pray it often for our own country, especially in the time of another election that will have a tremendous bearing on its future.
Faustina was concerned for the suffering children of her land. I am concerned for those of America who will never get a chance to live. Senator Obama has pledged to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as president. This bill will nullify every bit of pro-life legislation ever passed since Roe v. Wade. Thankfully, McCain will undoubtedly veto it.
It cannot be denied that children are a nation’s hope. I believe it, St. Faustina believed it, and Christ confirms it for in response to St. Faustina:
…His eyes filled with tears, [said], You see, My daughter, what great compassion I have for them. Know that it is they who uphold the world.
