The Sisters are Coming to Austin!

It’s official.

“[Bishop Gregory] Aymond also announced that seven sisters from an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based religious community, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist , will move to Central Texas in the summer to teach at area Catholic schools.”

The new high school, St. Dominic Savio, is less than 10 miles from our home. Who knows, my own sister could be teaching my children some day. Only Divine Providence knows.

  1. My goodness what wonderful news! And the new school is so close to us, too. When I read the part of the article noting that Catholic schools used to have a priest as the principal and sisters in the classroom, I said a prayer of thanksgiving – that is how my Catholic schools were! I had no idea until I moved to TX that priests & sisters weren’t everywhere in the community, part of every ministry & certainly a dominant part of Catholic education. Unfortunately, even at home in the Lincoln Diocese, vocations to the religious life are not as abundant as they once were and my little Catholic elementary & high schools have only one or two sisters. Thankfully, there are still abundant vocations to the priesthood and not as many challenges there. I have been wondering how I would expose our girls to religious sisters since they are so hard to find here. What a blessing it was to grow up with so many good priests & sisters actively involved in my community! I pray we will have the same here one day, too.
