A Visit from California

We were blessed last week to have the Shearer family come to Austin to visit us (and their own families of course) from California where they now reside. It was great to see our God son, Gabriel again. And in turn, Fulton was so excited to see his God parents. He enjoyed coloring and having a few moments of time with his God mother and God father. Our kids (and we) were sad to see them leave, but we’ll look forward to another visit soon. After all, first communions will be here before we know it!

Fulton and “Uncle Andrew” and “Auntie Elizabeth.”

The God fathers and the God sons.

Gabe entertaining Muffin.

Our wonderfully silly kids! (Gianna, Kolbe, Malia, Therese, Fulton and Gabriel)

Steam Train Tour

I love homeschooling. We have poopie days like everyone else, but we have some fun times too. I organized a field trip to the Austin Steam Train in Cedar Park. The community outreach person has only been doing this a couple of months. We had a fun time. Even though half our group couldn’t make it because someone in their families fell ill, we still had a good turn out.

Therese has recently started reading the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne. In the books, one of the kids, Jack, always takes his backpack with a notebook to take notes about things he learns on his adventure with his sister, Annie. Therese asked to take her backpack and notebook on our adventure. She was so cute. She did such a great job taking notes about what she learned. She came back home and that afternoon wrote a nice book about trains. She’s awesome.

My Adorable Children

Everyone thinks their own kids are the cutest in the world…I’m no different.

Garden of the Good Shepherd

I’m always looking for new and fun ways to bring the scripture to our kids through the liturgical year. Our “Garden of the Good Shepherd” calendar arrived today! I love, love, love, LOVE it! Illustrated by our favorite, Tomie dePaola, and written with scripture, reflection, and songs by Peter Mazar for the 50 days of Easter! The stickers are reusable which means the little fingers will just need to be careful. It won’t take our kids long to catch up to tomorrow’s readings.

The next best part of this is that Catholic Cuisine has recipes for a Good Shepherd Garden Party each week!  I can’t tell you how giddy and excited I am right now!

Smoothie Anyone?

Tomorrow I go back to a liquid/soft-food diet. Hopefully not more than a week this time. I’m at the last stage of my oral treatment and will undergo the first of two gum graft procedures to address severe gum recession. It was already pretty bad and it worsened in time after my surgery.

How many pounds do you think I’ll lose this round? :)

Novena for Pope Benedict

Join the Knights of Columbus in praying this novena for the Holy Father. It begins today and end on the 5th anniversary of his election as pope.

PRAYER FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI
Lord, source of eternal life and truth,
give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit
of courage and right judgment, a spirit
of knowledge and love. By governing
with fidelity those entrusted to his care,
may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter
and Vicar of Christ, build your Church
into a sacrament of unity, love and peace
for all the world. Amen.
V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.
R/ May the Lord preserve him,
give him a long life,
make him blessed upon the earth,
and not hand him over
to the power of his enemies.
V/ May your hand
be upon your holy servant.
R/ And upon your son,
whom you have anointed.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

Kinder Chocolate

The Easter Bunnies were good to us this year.  They were so good we’ve enjoyed treating the children to a different treat in their Easter baskets each day of this octave of Easter. Adam’s mom sent a bunch of candy to the kids. And our dear sweet God daughter, Lindsey, who’s living the hard life  ;) in Germany sent us some AMAZING chocolate. Maybe it’s only amazing because we don’t have it here (but actually I just learned they are made by the Italian company Ferrero). But I think it’s tasty none-the-less. It’s called Kinder Chocolate. And she also sent us these neat Kinder Eggs. The Kinder Egg is a chocolate egg that has a toy inside (and it’s banned in the US because it’s a choking hazard).

They were so much fun to eat and open. The children refer to these as their “German toys,” and they are just tickled!

Thanks Lindsey!

Easter Pictures

Thank you, Cey Family, for a wonderful start to our Easter season!
