The Bride-to-Be

It was a pleasure to host a bridal shower for our friend, Lauren. Matthew’s and her wedding is just around the corner and we’re all very excited for them. The festivities centered around a Kitchen Recipe theme. All the guests stocked her up with plenty of cookware and Fiesta ware to fill their new kitchen.

We caught up with friends. We played games (because I love games). We played one game where the guest had to guess the spices in unmarked jars by looking or smelling it. We also played a memory game with some obscure kitchen items. And the favorite game was one where I read the ingredients to a recipe and the guests had to guess what the dish was. The game prize was some of that homemade blueberry jam I’d been working on the last few weeks.

I found the cutest wedding cookie cutters at Hobby Lobby in the shapes of a wedding dress, cake, double heart and double bells. And I couldn’t resist. They’re not as cute at the examples on the package, but the ones I made didn’t come out too shabby. But the hit of the party had to be the Lemon-Blueberry Cake with White Chocolate Icing. (We have enjoyed this cake many times at our friends, the Selvaraj’s, home on Dominic’s birthdays.) The party favors were lovely herbs that the co-hostess, June, picked out last week.

And Lauren’s wedding favor is a St. Michael Chaplet that she made by hand–250 of them! She gave them out early to friends who weren’t going to make it to the wedding in Kentucky.

We wish you many blessing dear friend. God love you, Lauren!

VBS Circus

The kids just finished a week of Vacation Bible School. The theme was “Circus of Stars.” It is a K4J (Kids for Jesus) Catholic VBS program. They learned about St. John Bosco, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Teresa of Avila, St. John Vianny, and Blessed Mother Mary. Their mission this month is to balance work, play, rest and prayer. The kids were encouraged to pray a decade of the rosary at home. Fulton did really well praying with Adam or I every day. I’m very proud of him.

All in all they loved it! Although at the program for the parents on Friday, Fulton was not a fan of getting up in front of everyone and singing with his class. (Deja vu from last year.) Actually, very few kids were into that.
