As of last week, I began my new position at Fusion Learning Systems as Senior Flash Engineer. I’m very busy, the people are great, and I’m learning exciting new things in interactive media development. One area I have always been interested in but never had the chance to fully explore is accessibility. I am now waist deep in the stuff and feel as if I’m playing catch-up with the rest of the design community.
I can’t tell you how important it is that it should be (and in some cases it is) a requirement to consider users with disabilities throughout the design and development process of any form of electronic delivery, especially educational and training materials. It’ll broaden your skillset, increase your audience base, and most important, you’re helping others. The small fraction of time and cost it takes to put this into practice is nothing in comparison to its value. It just makes sense.
Yes, I like my new job.
